Eighteen-year-old Mallory is in love.
With her lottery tickets.
As her senior year falls apart, Mallory sees each set of tickets as the only chance for a better life—one where her parents aren’t going broke, her college dreams are still possible, and she’d have the resources to find the sister who left without any goodbyes.
Mallory arranges her whole life around secret trips to the crosstown liquor store famous for selling winning lottery tickets. She spins a web of lies to keep her plans and new part-time job hidden from her parents who are sure to disapprove. And it’s no easier with her friends. Mallory doesn’t want to risk being the awkward poor friend in their privileged world, so she nearly gets herself arrested trying to keep up with them.
Amidst all the anxiety and lies, though, is a growing friendship with Adrian Lopez, the tough yet totally hot transfer student with struggles of his own. Adrian becomes the one person with whom Mallory can be honest, and their budding relationship just may provide the luck she needs to hit the jackpot.
